Allow at least three or four days to explore Colombo before heading to your next Sri Lankan destination.

The heart of the city is the Colombo Fort. Here you are close to all the Colombo landmarks, as well as restaurants, cafes and shops. 

There are a few different neighbourhoods in Colombo that are well set up for tourists. Kollupitiya and Colombo Fort have lots of great hotel and accommodation options and are handy to Colombo’s hot tourist spots.

Colombo is pretty safe for tourists but, as with any new city, it would be prudent to exercise common-sense personal safety precautions to minimise your chances of running into trouble. 

The best time to visit Sri Lanka is from December to mid-April. 

Visit the Gangaramaya Temple, hang out at the Galle Face Green, and go shopping at the Pettah Market.
