Rolling vineyards and big-wave surf
Margaret River is one of Australia's premier wine regions. Estates in the area favour Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, while its cool temperatures have seen many experiment with Chardonnay. Today the region sits on par with the Yarra Valley at the forefront of dry white wine. Boutique breweries are a feature of the region, as are divine handmade cheeses – the annual food and wine festivals are a great way to combine these.
However, the Margaret River remains the only wine region in the country nestled between a world-class surf break and tall-timber forests, and that's definitely something visitors should take advantage of. Wild coastal scenery blends seamlessly into rolling vineyards and onto hardwood trees that dwarf even the tallest of skyscrapers. Ancient limestone caves are also hidden throughout the region, offering a range of rock climbing, abseiling and rafting adventures.
The Margaret River region welcomes travellers of all types into a region bursting with a myriad of flavours and experiences. It's a region definitely worth discovering!
