A cultural centre set in a dazzling sun-drenched climate
A large migrant population has infused the city with a Latino vibe that creates a perfect accompaniment to the world-famous beaches people come to in droves. Nearly 65% of Miami's population is Latin American or of Latin American descent, infusing traditional USA culture with a little bit of samba and spice. Little Havana is one of the best places in the city to experience it, with brightly coloured street side cafes serving Cuban-inspired meals, with a side of cigars and Latin music. The cheerful Latina energy spreads right across to South Beach, the surfing capital of Miami. Home to boutique shops, marvellous cafes, plenty of bars and, of course, the famous surf break, South Beach is the place to go to catch some rays, people watch or simply relax on the sand.
Once you're successfully bronzed, head back into the city to explore a little further. The purse strings can be stretched to near-breaking point at the Lincoln Road Mall, while the Wynwood Walls offer some excellent, intriguing – and occasionally just plain weird – street art. Foodies can head to one of the many dining strips spread throughout the city and savour the distinct Spanish-infused dishes. To get away from the city, head west to the Everglades National Park or south to the ever-sunny Florida Keys – Miami is a great base to start exploring the rest of Florida. There's really no city that does the fusion of culture, food, art and lifestyle better, so what are you waiting for?
