Frequently asked questions

Koh Tao is a pretty tiny island so generally two to three days would be ample time to see the Koh Tao’s main sites. If you plan to take advantage of the diving, consider adding another day or two so you aren’t rushed.

Given Koh Tao means Turtle Island, you’ve come to the right place. Koh Tao is known for some of the best snorkelling conditions in Thailand however if it’s turtles you seek, head to Sai Daeng Beach, Shark Island, Freedom Beach and Hin Ngam Bay for the best chance to view these majestic creatures.

Unlike some of Thailand’s other islands, conservation is big in Koh Tao so be sure to pack your Keep Cup and reusable water bottle. In terms of clothing, pack light as you’re pretty much only going to need swimmers, shorts, t-shirts and comfortable shoes.

Visitors will arrive in Mae Haad Beach, which offers some excellent souvenir shopping, restaurants and accommodation options. If you’re looking for a little nightlife, Sairee Beach is known as a bit of a backpackers haven, while families tend to opt for Chalok Bay. For serenity and relaxation, Ao Thian Og is your place.

Absolutely! In fact, walking and cycling around Koh Tao is a great way to see the island. Distances between towns, beaches and bays are generally no more than 5 kilometres, however keep in mind that there are no proper footpaths so care should be taken.

Definitely! Snorkelling day tours from Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are quite popular, however there are some really cool things to see and do on Koh Tao, so if you can, stay a little longer.

The best time to visit Koa Tao is between February and April when you can generally expect blue skies and hot days.

Swim, snorkel, dive, eat, relax, party, do a little sight-seeing – for a small island, it’s packed to the gills with things to see and do.
