This long, narrow country has a north-to-south distance of 1,650 kilometres, with the major international airports in Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) in the south, Hanoi (HAN) in the north, and Da Nang (DAD), about mid-way up the country. Several airlines offer direct flights to Vietnam from Australia.
If you’re after cheap flights to Vietnam, there are a few seasonal factors to consider when planning your trip. Spring and autumn are two of the best times to visit Vietnam, with temperatures dropping in the north between December and March. In the south of the country, temperatures are quite steady year-round. Note that on the central coast, cyclones can be on the radar between August and November.
Airports in Vietnam
Flights from Australia to Vietnam will arrive at either Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, or at the capital, Hanoi. Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's largest airport and takes its name from the neighbouring village of Tan Son Nhat. Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi is the largest airport in North Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines has hubs at both airports.
