Hens Down Under

A long weekend can go a long way when staying close to home. Save money with a road trip not too far from your own backyard, or, check out what domestic flights are on sale and see what's on offer around Oz. If schedules permit, try to plan the hens party outside of school holidays to save on accommodation options, holiday traffic, and general busyness – and remember school and public holidays vary from state to state!

Byron Bay

Love a flower crown? You'll love Byron Bay for a hen weekend that's truly instaworthy – from farm stays with amazing local foods to devour, quaint little shops to explore in nearby Bangalow, Newrybar, and Brunswick Heads, and plenty of party scene in Byron town centre to get amongst once the sun goes down. Nestled between the ocean and the hills – you've got the beach or the hinterland all within a short drive. Book a private yoga class, go paddle-boarding, visit the local Cape Byron Distillery for a gin tasting, head to trendy The Banya spa in Mullumbimby, or simply soak up the sun, sand, and surf on the beach! There are so many fun options for free-spirited hens to celebrate in Byron Bay and its surrounds.

Best time to go: Byron Bay is delightful year-round, but if you want to make the most of the beach, plan for Spring when the chances of rain are low and the ocean is starting to warm up!

Adelaide

Aka wine country in the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale... if your bride-to-be loves her vino, an escape to Adelaide is sure to make one heck of a tipsy-tastic time! Arrange a wine tour so you have a driver to escort your crew to the best cellar doors in the region including Penfolds, d'Arenberg, Bird in Hand, and Shaw & Smith. Not to mention plenty of good local cheese and gourmet eats at every turn! We're not sure what else you could want, but there's plenty more for hens to explore in Adelaide – there's plenty of bars and clubs to hit up in the centre of the city, and a rejuvenating recovery day at one of the city's day spas would make an Adelaide hens party complete!

Best time to go: September to March is wine harvest season and a great time to visit the local wineries. However, December and January can be very hot and dry, while February and March are busy in the city with arts and sporting festivals bringing many visitors, so plan accordingly, or join in the festival fun!

Noosa

With around 300 days of Sunshine a year on the Sunny Coast, you can plan a glorious hens party at Noosa at just about any time of the year. Between boutique shopping, fine dining, and scenic walks in Noosa National Park – it's a win for hens seeking the sun on their backs and a cocktail in their hands! For a table at Noosa's most popular restaurants be sure to book ahead – check out Sum Yung Guys, Rickys, Sails, Locale, and Bang Bang. Want a little day trip adventure? You've come to the right place! Spirit House restaurant in Yandina offers contemporary Thai cooking classes that make a tasty way to spend the day or evening, or, why not hire a minivan to take your gaggle of hens to a wine tasting in the picturesque hinterland vineyards of Montville.

Best time to go: July to September is a great time, particularly if you're visiting from the southern cities, you can ditch your winter coat for a bikini even in the cooler months.

Hobart

Does your hen love a good dose of culture? Especially when there's wine involved? Have it all in Hobart with a day trip to Mona (Museum of Old and New Art). Take the 'posh pit' ferry across the River Derwent complete with sparkling wine and snacks then head straight to one of the many bars located ingeniously inside the museum. Is it just us or does art hit different after a cocktail? Then, take a tour of Moorilla, the on-site winery and vineyard. Could this be the coolest art gallery in Australia - possibly the world?

Best time to go: Unless you love to rug up for the cold, summer is an ideal time to visit Hobart with its refreshingly temperate average maximum temps of 21 degrees. Mona also hosts two very popular events that could make for an extra special hens getaway – Dark Mofo in June and Mona Foma in February.

Sydney

Can't decide between the beach and the city? Get the best of both worlds in the world-class city of Sydney! Spoilt for choice with incredible restaurants, bars, and nightlife to celebrate the bride-to-be – you could even hire a private boat cruise to take your party out on the harbour to soak up the sights. Pack your activewear for a walk and chat with the girls along the stunning Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk (hot tip: stop off for a refreshing glass of rose wine at Clovelly Bowls Club!) and take a dip at Bondi Icebergs pool on the way back.

Best time to go: Summer is the peak season for tourists in Sydney, so if you want a little more room to get rowdy, consider June to August and embrace the cooler weather with a trip to the Blue Mountains for a cosy fireplace and red wine vibes. Or, check out what festivals and events are on from March to May and September to November – Vivid Sydney Festival of Light, Music and Ideas, and Bondi's Sculpture by the Sea are always favourites.

Melbourne

A classy high tea is pretty great just about anywhere, but Melbourne's coffee and cake scene really takes things up a notch. Head to the National Gallery of Victoria for a morning of art followed by afternoon tea in the gallery's Tea Room. Time to ditch the tea for tequila? Melbourne has plenty of cocktail bars and restaurants worthy of an epic evening. The rooftop at Curtin House's Mesa Verde restaurant looks like the perfect setting for a Mexican-themed garden party. Don't forget the Yarra Valley makes the perfect day trip from Melbourne too, get amongst the rolling hills and visit wineries Hubert Estate, Oakridge Wines, Domaine Chandon (do the sparkling masterclass tasting), and Yering Farm. Then, book the ultimate hens recovery at Peninsula Hot Springs in Fingal or Hepburn Springs Bathhouse and Spa (approx 1.5 hours drive from the city). Or, if you'd prefer to keep the city vibes going, check out Sense of Self in trendy Collingwood for all your self-care needs.

Best time to go: March to May and September to November are considered to be the shoulder seasons and a good time to visit the city if you want to avoid the deep chill of winter or the intense warmth of summer!

Overseas

Bali

The perfect not-too-far-from-home overseas adventure, Bali is a popular destination for many a hens party – and with good reason! Hire a luxury villa with your own private pool, and a chef and bartender to take care of eats and drinks for the ultimate treat. Hit the beach clubs and party under the stars all night long. Then, take it easy the next day with a trip to the spa or maybe a yoga class in Ubud or a traditional Balinese cooking class. Your group could hit the water and take a boat trip to a nearby island, or simply wander around local village markets for a day of shopping and cafes.

Hot tip: Hire a private driver for your time in Bali to help you get from A to B (and C and D) smoothly.

Best time to go: For fewer mascara-running-down-the-face looks, head to Bali during the dry season from May to October.

Mykonos

If Greek salad, drinking cocktails by the water, and living like a mermaid aboard a private yacht rank highly in your hen's fave things – the Greek Islands are a hot choice. Charter a boat and sail around the island's crystal clear waters, soak up the Mediterranean sun then toast to the sun as it sets over the water – picturesque doesn't even begin to cut it! Mykonos boasts some of the most famous beach clubs in the world – perfect for embracing the nightlife and letting your hair down as every hen and her friends should!

Best time to go: Most trips from Australia to Greece aren't spontaneous, so if you're likely planning ahead, the best time to visit is between June and September. May and October pose a good opportunity for fewer crowds and cheaper accommodation but keep in mind some beach clubs and bars may be closed.

Cabo San Lucas

Did someone say all-inclusive resorts? Mexico's famed resort town on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula is a stress-free destination where your group of hens can run wild enjoying the beach, restaurants, and bars with plenty of nightlife – all at a luxury resort where drinks and meals are included. Get ready to guac till you can't stop and slurp on frozen margaritas till your brain freezes! All you need to do is coordinate a trip to the spa for the girl gang to get pampered!

Best time to go: Cabo is best from May to June as a general lull between the busy seasons. October and November are also nice months to visit but plan ahead to lock in your hotel or resort if you want to get the best deals.

New York City

Nothing screams the ultimate hens party like a trip to the Big Apple, Sex and the City style! Shop til you drop on Fifth Avenue, picnic in Central Park, and get into a range of cultural activities from a day at The Met to a baseball game at Yankee Stadium! Head up to the Empire State Building for stunning views over the beautiful city, and be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out, live music, and buzzing nightlife – all within walking distance from any borough you decide to call your NYC home with your closest friends.

Best time to go: April to June and September to November is when the weather is the most agreeable. However, in July and August, the city gets hot and lots of locals head to the Hamptons so you might be able to bag a great deal on an apartment rental during this time.

Dubai

If your girl loves a city vacay, Dubai does not disappoint! Here brunch is practically a religion, so you can expect to be treated to gourmet dining experiences all day long. Afternoon tea in Dubai is a real treat too, be sure to book into a high-end hotel to experience lavish service. Did someone say shopping? Pack flats for hitting the ground running at The Dubai Mall. There's plenty more to do in Dubai than eat, drink, and shop though – you can embark on a desert safari adventure and spend a night under the stars complete with a traditional Arabian dinner. Take a helicopter ride over the city centre for a bird's-eye view of Dubai's fascinating landmarks. Head to a beach club and lounge by the water, or book into a day spa and pamper the bride and her entourage of lucky hens.

Important to note: Dubai has strict rules about public drunkenness, so while you can certainly enjoy a few mimosas over brunch, it's important not to let anyone in your group of hens become intoxicated in public.

Best time to go: Avoid August as it's the hottest month of the year, likewise avoid February as it's the wettest month of the year. The shoulder and off-season runs from April to October and can be a good time to save money on accommodation and flights.

Expert tip

Set aside some time to spend at your hotel - most of them are destinations in their own right and have lots of amenities that you can use. Plus Dubai is HOT - if your hotel has a pool, you'll want to spend some time in it!

Las Vegas

Calling all 'woo girls' – Vegas isn't just for bucks parties, it's for hen parties too! Especially if your hen loves a little showtime magic! A perfect combination of fun and relaxation – the hens can go a little wild at a live show such as the famed male revue, Chippendales, or Thunder From Down Under. Go dressed up and book into a fine-dining restaurant, try your luck on the blackjack tables, or simply kick back at one of Vegas' popular pool parties. Take to the skies with a helicopter tour over the Vegas Strip and even the Grand Canyon! If you've got a bigger budget, or get lucky on the poker tables, give your credit card a workout at the high-end boutiques in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian.

Hot tip: Lots of Las Vegas hotels and resorts have packages for hens (aka bachelorette) parties, so be sure to enquire about what deals and offers might be available. And, lots of popular live shows book out in advance, so book those in advance too.

Best time to go: High season in Las Vegas is March to May and September to November. Late June through August is pretty warm, but if you're poolside or in the air-con, you'll be fine! Be sure to check for any major conventions or events that might be in town and plan around them.
