San Jose and surrounds
Situated on a plateau, Costa Rica’s capital is a well-laid out grid of quaint boulevards lined with colonial architecture and a treasure trove of urban hangouts. Join a yoga class, or choose from an array of walking tours that focus on city art, architecture, local life or history.
There’s a full host of adventures just waiting beyond the city limits of San Jose. Whether you’re a golf enthusiast or bird watcher, the topography is home to an incredible array of pursuits. You can spend the morning at Arenal Volcano and the nearby hot springs or on a river rafting excursion, before traversing rainforest trails to the gorgeous La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
An eco wonderland
The attractions keep coming with national parks by the hoards. Go trekking through stunning Rincon de la Vieja National Park to the mud baths, or spend time in one of the most biologically intense places on earth, Corcovado National Park. The knowledgeable guides are more than happy to point out wildlife throughout the area.
Take to the waterways in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui on a riverboat cruise, and end the day gliding through the treetops on a zip-line. But the thrills don’t stop there. Water enthusiasts can join float tours on the Corobici River, white-water rafting on the Chirripo River and surfing expeditions at Esterillos and Playa Hermosa.
