Where to stay in Maldives

The Maldives is home to a sun-soaked string of islands and secluded sandbanks – over 1,200 in total. They’re grouped into small clusters and, of these islands, approximately 200 are uninhabited. In most cases, private resorts boast their own island, so it’s possible to savour a classic beach holiday without having to share the experience with hundreds of other beach-goers! In short, you can’t go wrong no matter where you stay in the Maldives. Having said that, here are some top picks.

  • Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa

Located in the Huvadhoo Atoll, Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa promises gorgeous overwater villas and 5-star hospitality. The resort’s 3-bedroom Overwater Reef Residence is particularly sought-after, teetering on the very tip of the house reef with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

  • Heritance Aarah

When it comes to Maldives holidays, Heritance Aarah is Insta-iconic. Featuring an overwater spa, easy access to various enthralling water activities (like fly boarding, diving, wind surfing and snorkelling) and offering a slew of restaurants catering to every palate and mood, there’s little wonder why it’s one of the most popular luxury hotels and resorts in the Maldives.

  • Ayada Maldives

Planning an escape with your partner and wondering where to stay in Maldives? Ayada Maldives is sure to tick all the boxes, serving up bucketloads of romance. Not only is it one of the best luxury hotels and resorts in the archipelago, but it’s also considered one of the top 25 in the world! Along with rooms that are nothing short of heavenly and a variety of adventures in store, there are also curated resort experiences for every type of traveller. Fishing at sunset, private house reef snorkelling, a deserted island picnic and a glass-bottomed boat tour are just a few to get excited about!

  • LUX South Ari Atoll

Vibrant thatched villas, (some of which have private pools), plenty of bars and restaurants and the opportunity to enjoy leisurely bike rides along the jetty are just a few reasons why you might opt to settle in at LUX South Ari Atoll. It’s a resort that welcomes couples and families alike (yes, there’s a kids club for the little ones so that tired parents can finally put their feet up for a bit – goodness knows you deserve it!). Plus, great news for the vegans and vegetarians: it was the first resort in the Maldives to be recognised as “vegan-friendly” by Vegan Welcome.

  • Champa Central Hotel

As most holidaymakers know, there’s more to the Maldives than the beach (although there needn’t be, if we’re being completely honest here!). If you’re keen to stick close to Male, the more densely populated capital city where you’ll find bright and bustling markets, museums and mesmerisingly beautiful mosques, then Champa Central Hotel, located close to shopping mecca Chaandhanee Magu, is sure to make for a blissful base. Along with its gorgeous rooms and views, the hotel is also known for its rooftop restaurant that dishes up mouth-watering Indian cuisine.

FAQs about stays in Maldives

This is a tricky question because there are so many islands in the Maldives and each one belongs on a postcard! Accommodation options on Malé, Hulhumalé and Maafushi are perfect for travellers visiting on a budget since this is where you’ll find a lot of the more affordable stays. Looking for luxury? Most of the overwater bungalows and luxury resorts in the Maldives occupy their own private islands, so have a look at the accommodation deals above to see what’s currently available.

Famously romantic, the Maldives might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think family holiday, but there are plenty of family-friendly resorts available. In fact, many of our Maldives hotels offer fantastic kids’ clubs and facilities designed with families in mind! Make sure you select the correct number of adults, children and infants travelling with you when searching for your Maldives accommodation, or ask your Travel Expert to help you find the perfect family-friendly resorts for your trip.

The Maldives is known for its luxury resorts and private villas, but if you’re looking for more affordable stays try booking beachfront accommodations instead of overwater bungalows, or travelling outside of peak season. Filter by price when browsing our Maldives accommodation deals to find budget options that work with your wallet!

Many luxury resorts and premium lodgings in the Maldives will offer a complimentary breakfast for their guests, while others may charge an additional fee. To find out if breakfast options are available at a specific resort, click on the deal above.

Some of our Maldives stays do include flexible booking and cancellation options, but it’s important to read the specific deal’s terms and conditions or talk to your Travel Expert before booking with us to make sure you understand your options. More information on cancellations can also be found in our Help Centre.

While last-minute offers do exist, we recommend booking your Maldives accommodation sooner rather than later. Resort availability can become more limited as your travel dates get closer, especially if you’re visiting during the busier dry season (November to April). Booking early typically gives you access to more choice and better prices.

Yes! Your Maldives accommodation will typically offer airport transfers between Velana International Airport (Malé Airport) and the resort, usually by seaplane, speedboat and/or shuttle. This will usually come with an additional fee and it’s important that you contact your resort well in advance to organise your transfers. Click on a specific deal above for more information on hotel services, or ask your Travel Expert to help you arrange your airport transfers with resort staff.
